I’m happy to announce that my first solo exhibit will be happening from June 2nd to the 7th at the Gladstone Hotel‘s Art Bar.  Please check out the Facebook event and be sure to invite yourself.

The work I’ll be showing is a series I did during my trip back to Sri Lanka after 22 years.  All profits from the sales of the photographs will be donated to a charity (TBD) working in the north-east region of Sri Lanka.

More details below:

POINT PEDRO TO COLOMBO

In May of 2009 the 26-year war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had come to an end. The LTTE were fighting for a separate homeland in the northern and eastern provinces due to years of political conflict between the Sinhalese majority and the Tamil minority.

In search of a better future, Gobhi Theivendran’s family fled the country in the late 80s. During the fall of 2010, Gobhi had an opportunity to return to Sri Lanka after 22 years. This is a series of photographs taken while travelling from Point Pedro; a village in northern Jaffna and his birthplace, to the country’s capital of Colombo. Although the series does capture the effects of the war in the north-east region, the main purpose was to visually portray his personal experience.

All profits from the show will be donated to a non-profit organization (TBD) doing work in the north-east region of Sri Lanka. All framed prints from the show are available for sale. Limited edition prints from the series are available for $70 as well. Please message me or email gobhi@gobhi-t.com
