Point Pedro to Colombo

In May of 2009 the 26-year war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had come to an end.  The LTTE were fighting for a separate homeland in the northern and eastern provinces due to years of political conflict between the Sinhalese majority and the Tamil minority.

After 22 years, I had an opportunity to return to Sri Lanka during the fall of 2010.  This is a series of photographs taken while traveling from Point Pedro; a village in northern Jaffna and my birthplace, to the country’s capital of Colombo.  Although the series does capture the effects of the war in the north-east region, the main purpose was to visually portray my personal experience.
